It was both a pleasure and an honor to present our L.E.A.D.S.™ Law Enforcement Active De-escalation Strategies Instructor Training for the Criminal Justice Academy of Osceola
from November 10-12, 2025. The program was extremely well received, with participants demonstrating exceptional enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism throughout the three-day course. We extend our sincere gratitude to Academy Director Guy Samuelson for your continued support and leadership in advancing professional development within your academy.
This what the team had to say!
Were there parts of the program you saw as particularly useful?
- The different ways how we use the brain and how we can program to use it efficiently to our advantage. More time with Lieutenant Kevin Dillon.
- Learning how to explain why I related the way I did and tools and concepts I can use to respond differently.
- How we think in complex situations. KD stays the whole class!!
- How to redirect the thought process and strategies for reducing anger.
- The intimate details of de escalation strategies. There were times where I didn’t understand what the class was talking about due to the speed of the presentation.
- All information was equally useful.
- The relationship between breathing and how it affects the Pfc and limbic system. Make it mandatory for all supervisors and administration.
- The different ways of de escalation. Longer time with Mr. Dillon he’s a great guy.
- Absolutely wonderful very engaging. I would not add anything it’s perfect.
- Parts of de escalation useful in interrogation situation.
- It was great to learn that there were many different ways to deescalate most situations without going hands on.
- Experience in anecdotes because you can see a situation was handled by someone else. Possibly a little longer so you could dive more into each topic.
- All, honestly, but giving other options to handle the situation and perspectives it was great as is, actually better than expected.
- Breathing techniques.
- The third day with interactions.
- Block learning versus interleaving training was helpful in terms of getting officers to get more repetition in training.
- I thought the program itself was enjoyable and gave a lot of knowledge. Which KD stayed for the last day.
- The book references were great way to expose myself to more information on the subject taught.
- The part of taking a step back and breathing in that you need to have self-control. Maybe another day with scenarios.
- Principal of adult learning with interleaving training.
- Redirecting the thought process.
- A lot of information is vital for work environment but I feel it would benefit way more at the Academy level to assist transition from Academy to real hands on experience they will encounter.
- Learning how to get someone from Limbic to frontal lobe thinking.
- The examples of how to position yourself when speaking with somebody in a chair

FBI National Academy Associates 2022 Science & Innovation Award Presented to L.O.C.K.U.P.
The L.O.C.K.UP. training differentiated itself from other Defensive tactics programs being instructed throughout the country. Not a technique-based training system but the emphasis is on the actual collection of data on the use of force incidents, and detailed reporting to determine the effectiveness and needs assessments of the officers on the street.
