The Houston Police Academy will be hosting an upcoming course titled, “L.E.A.D.S. Law Enforcement Active De-escalation Strategies Plus Tactical Options” available to all law enforcement officers.
This is an 8-hour course offered by KFD Training & Consultation LLC and will be held at the Houston Police Department Training Academy, 17000 Aldine Westfield, Houston, TX 77073. The date and time assignment is as follows:
Thursday, January 10, 2019, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This course includes the following topics:
- Risk management for officer safety
- Anger management and control techniques
- How complaints are used against officers in litigation and how to avoid
- How to document de-escalation and or attempts
- Learn principles of emotional intelligence for law enforcement
- Learn methods of effective verbal de-escalation strategies
- Understanding physiological changes during aggression
- Learn to use cognitive limitations for active diffusion
- Identity different communications styles with appropriate response tactics
- Learn methods of motivational interviewing skills
- Learn how to go to plan B when de-escalation is not the right option
- Learn communication and physical strategies to de-escalate situations…plus more!
This class will be taught by nationally recognized law enforcement trainer Lieutenant Kevin Dillon (ret) who developed the program and has numerous credentials including development of the L.O.C.K.U.P. Arrest and Control System, is certification by the Force Science Institute for Analysis of Use of Force Incidents, and is a Civil Litigation Specialist through AELE. He has appeared on CNN, NPR and other radio talk shows as a national law enforcement expert.
The cost is $125 per student and the class will provide eight hours of TCOLE credit.
